Everyone loves a mystery and we are particularly fond of the mystical realms. Around here, there are no secrets. Everything gets laid bare. Stay tuned to the blog if you're into learning about CSS & xHTML, design in general, grabbing an occasional freeby, and learning more about the technologies that go into this site. There will also be whimsical meanderings about a wide variety of yet-to-be-determined topics. Stay tuned to find out what's on my mind.

Regarding Magick

Since the release of my new site with its “magick” theme, I have been wanting to write a blog post about the supernatural, magick, and what it means to me. Let me start off by saying (perhaps to the disappointment of some of you) that I don’t actually practice magick and actually I never have. It’s not that I have a problem with people who do, I know lots of nice people who do and I understand that their motivation for doing so often stems from an interest in the supernatural, an interest I share and a subject very near and dear to my own heart.

I think when I speak about magic and refer to it on my blog in…

Freelancing for a Higher Purpose

I love the culture that surrounds the web design industry.  Creative, free-spirited people who often work from home or freelance and work weird hours because they can and they feel like it.  Love it.  But I feel like there is alot of burnout and frustration because that same freedom often leaves people wandering about confused and purposeless.  I’m about to lay out some ideas that may seem like sweeping generalizations, however, I think if you consider them carefully they will bring a greater clarity and sense of purpose and direction to your work as a web designer / developer.

I am a freelancer, and like many other freelancers I have a fairly regular interaction with other web professionals through Twitter. As…

Free “Fiery Fairy” Icon Set

In the process of designing this blog I wound up with a number of thematic elements, and because I’m all about making the web a more magical place, I figured I’d share them. One theme that I ended up using only sparingly is what I would call a “Fiery Fairy Glossy Button Theme”. The idea was the same glowing trails that are found elsewhere on the site except they are “contained” inside of a glossy button. They’re kind of “Web 2.0″ and kind of “Disney”. The design for this site was most certainly inspired in part by Disney, and as much as I often have a love / hate relationship with Disney, I believe they tapped into something which is…

Why Bellydance?!

If this is your first time stopping by, I probably don’t need to be prophetic to guess a certain question which is likely on your mind.  It goes something like this… “Bellydance?  Why Bellydance?!” Allow me to explain.

First of all, as a designer, I have always had a weakness for all things sparkly, shiny, glowing, etc.  I share this weakness with most of the bellydancers I know, so we get along well.  Also, my wife has been bellydancing for a few years now and it was the exposure I got to  photography, web design, graphic art and similar visual arts mediums through helping bellydancers that ultimately helped me decide to make a living at this stuff.  That’s the history of how…

Come On in, We’re Open

My intention with this blog is multi-faceted to say the least. I’m going to take this opportunity to give you a vague outline of what you can expect to find here. I’ve been telling people (mostly clients and friends) for far too long now. “I am a web designer / developer, and some time soon, I’m going to have a website of my own.” The truth is that I did have a website up at this same address, but quite frankly, I’m hoping that most of you who find yourselves reading this blog post have not seen the previous one. It might sound silly, but as a self-taught web professional and entrepreneur I’ve learned so much so quickly that the…
