Everyone loves a mystery and we are particularly fond of the mystical realms. Around here, there are no secrets. Everything gets laid bare. Stay tuned to the blog if you're into learning about CSS & xHTML, design in general, grabbing an occasional freeby, and learning more about the technologies that go into this site. There will also be whimsical meanderings about a wide variety of yet-to-be-determined topics. Stay tuned to find out what's on my mind.

JavaScript (jQuery) Conflicts with MailChimp Embed Code

MailChimp embeds a number of codes by default when you use their pre-generated “embed code”. These scripts are very useful as they allow error-checking, validation, and other custom messages that happen within your MailChimp subscribe box on your website. This is much more professional than sending the user to the MailChimp page for your list, which is ideally themed to match your page but still, not as professional.

What I just learned was that the reason for my JavaScript conflict was that I was calling jQuery and a number of other scripts at the top of my document. By moving them to the bottom, it allows the MailChimp scripts to resolve and then jQuery and other scripts get called last, which…

Fancybox Alternate Button Images – Gold

While working on a project I found that the Fancybox buttons used to “navigate left”, “navigate right”, and “close” the Fancybox overlay, while beautiful, just weren’t right for the theme of the site. So I created my own navigation buttons and I felt that they fit seamlessly with the existing theme of Fancybox yet were appropriate for a completely different style of site. If you’re project has gold or gold would be a nice accent for it, you will love these buttons. They’re free to use for commercial and non-commercial projects, I ask only that you not post them for download yourself but link back to this page if you want to share them with friends and fellow web designers and developers.

It is my hope that this video is a help to web designers who are just starting out and also people who are currently shopping for a web designer and are unsure of what to look for and what to expect in terms of skill, price, and a number of other factors. Hope it helps!
